St. Joseph Health System Enhances Medical Records Functions with ChartMaxx Electronic Document Management from MedPlus
Unified Data Management Software is Designed to Streamline Workflow and Lower Costs Across the Enterprise
April 19, 2011
MASON, O.H. – April 19, 2011 – MedPlus, the healthcare information technology subsidiary of Quest Diagnostics® (NYSE: DGX), announced today that St. Joseph Health System (SJHS), which is based in California and operates facilities in three states, will increase efficiency, streamline operations, and eliminate multiple manual medical records and imaging systems by implementing the award-winning ChartMaxx solution.
ChartMaxx, which consistently ranks Best in KLAS® among Document Management and Imaging vendors, is an enterprise-wide electronic records management solution built on a document management and imaging foundation. It enables healthcare organizations to enhance performance and maximize business results through the efficient collection, access and use of clinical, financial and administrative information.
“For St. Joseph Health System, a comprehensive health information management (HIM) system is a core asset that directly impacts the cost of healthcare delivery,” said Kimberly Sullivan, SJHS vice president of Revenue Cycle. Noting that SJHS has been relying on ChartMaxx in their registration and patient financial services (PFS) departments for the past year, she added: “The MedPlus solution is a great complement to our existing best practices, which all help us meet the criteria for our next generation HIM needs.”
SJHS has traditionally performed manual medical record management at each of its facilities. The workflow automation that ChartMaxx provides will help eliminate this inefficiency and improve interdepartmental communication. ChartMaxx enables SJHS to replace multiple document management and imaging solutions with a consolidated system, providing a repository to access every patient’s medical record from anywhere across its enterprise. ChartMaxx also provides SJHS staff direct online access to a patient’s digitized medical record, including lab orders and test results, along with radiology images that they can exchange with specialists in other departments.
The implementation of intelligent eForms will give SJHS the ability to capture real-time discrete data via customized and flexible interactive templates. Electronic forms can help improve document and data management in a number of ways, including:
- Reduction in the number of errors on forms
- Ability to capture and report on discrete data – SJHS will be able to report on the discrete data captured in the eForm and stored in the ChartMaxx database
“As an enterprise-wide single source solution, ChartMaxx will enable SJHS to streamline its workflow and share real-time patient information within their system’s facilities,” said Richard Mahoney, MedPlus president and vice president of Healthcare Information Solutions for Quest Diagnostics. “ChartMaxx is consistently recognized as the most cost-effective and efficient system across the entire enterprise, while allowing staff access to the crucial information that they need to improve overall care for their patients.”
