MedPlus Accelerates Nationwide EHR Adoption Through Collaborations with Regional Extension Centers
Web-based Care360 Electronic Health Record Provides Practical Solutions to Achieve Meaningful Use
November 12, 2010
MedPlus®, the healthcare information technology subsidiary of Quest Diagnostics® Incorporated (NYSE:DGX), today announced collaborations across the U.S. with regional extension centers (RECs), which offer technical assistance, guidance, and information on best practices to support and accelerate the efforts of health care providers to meet requirements for Meaningful Use of Electronic Health Records (EHRs).
“RECs are playing a critical role for physicians nationwide to successfully transition their practices to EHRs, streamline their practice workflow and share crucial patient data to improve clinical outcomes,” said Richard A. Mahoney, Quest Diagnostics’ vice president of Healthcare Information Solutions and president of its MedPlus healthcare information technology subsidiary. “By working with the RECs, we are able to provide thousands of physicians across the country with access to a practical, modular EHR solution that positions them to realize available financial incentives upon demonstrating Meaningful Use.”
MedPlus has been chosen as an approved electronic health record (EHR) vendor by the eHealthConnecticut Regional Extension Center. In addition, MedPlus has been selected as a Management Service Organization (MSO) with the CRISP Regional Extension Center in Maryland. MedPlus will serve as an Implementation and Optimization Organization (IOO), as well as a preferred EHR vendor, for the Massachusetts e-Health Institute REC. Under both the Massachusetts and Maryland REC programs, MedPlus will directly assist primary care providers by providing education, training and installation support services.
Additionally, MedPlus is collaborating with the Chicago Health Information Technology Regional Extension Center, the North Texas Regional Extension Center, the West Texas Health Information Technology Regional Extension Center, the CentrEast Regional Extension Center, the Gulf Coast Regional Extension Center, the HealthInsight Regional Extension Center for Nevada and Utah and the New Mexico Health Information Technology Regional Extension Center (NM HITREC) to accelerate EHR adoption among small to medium-size physician practices in those states.
Approximately one third of U.S. physicians—and many of the country’s leading hospitals and health systems—currently rely on health care information solutions developed by MedPlus to document, analyze and monitor diagnostic, prescription and clinical data to provide better patient care.
Care360 EHR is designed to facilitate a modular approach to adoption allowing physicians to incrementally add functionality to seamlessly transition from paper to electronic records at their own pace. Since all of the Care360 solutions are based on the same hosted single platform, physicians can start with Care360 Labs & Meds and move to Care360™ EHR when the practice is ready. Upgrading from one solution to the next is as simple as activating the additional modules, and scheduling training at a convenient time.
