Intermountain Healthcare and MedPlus Chart a Roadmap for Better Patient Record Accessibility with ChartMaxx
ChartMaxx® Provides Enhanced Access to Critical Patient Data
August 4, 2010
MADISON, N.J. – August 4, 2010 – Intermountain Healthcare, a Salt Lake City-based nonprofit health system, and MedPlus®, the healthcare information technology subsidiary of Quest Diagnostics® Incorporated (NYSE: DGX), have joined forces to give physicians an integrated view of patient medical records currently housed in disparate systems.
As demands increase for interoperability between regional healthcare organizations, Intermountain, a recognized leader in healthcare delivery, has announced that it will deploy ChartMaxx®, an enterprise-wide electronic health record solution from MedPlus. As a Service Oriented Architecture (SOA)-compliant application, ChartMaxx can now acquire data from a central Intermountain information source, eliminating the need to duplicate data across the enterprise.
“Intermountain conducted an exhaustive search for a business partner that could provide a complete SOA-based solution,” said Mark Probst, Intermountain’s CIO. “MedPlus provided the best combination of IT healthcare expertise with the right software application to meet our needs. And, since ChartMaxx has won numerous awards, it’s clear MedPlus is dedicated to new product innovation and exceptional customer delivery. That was important to us.”
The partnership strengthens Intermountain Healthcare’s ability to coordinate delivery of patient care, and to share patient files and clinical test results without building traditional interfaces or duplicating patient data across multiple clinical information systems. MedPlus and Intermountain have agreed to jointly participate in co-development projects that will provide real time ChartMaxx access to data and documents stored in a variety of hospital systems. This approach enables Intermountain to continue with a “best of breed” strategy for applications, while also providing a single access point to the complete patient record.
“The focus of our collaboration with Intermountain is to provide a unique ChartMaxx solution that capitalizes on a SOA environment to provide real time communication between systems,” says Richard Mahoney, MedPlus president and vice president of Healthcare Information Solutions for Quest Diagnostics. “By delivering a SOA-based ChartMaxx solution, Intermountain will leverage their investments in legacy systems while providing a new level of information access which frees physicians and clinicians to work more efficiently and at less cost.”
Hospitals are under tremendous pressure to realize greater efficiencies, lower costs, and improve patient outcomes. ChartMaxx will enable Intermountain’s physicians to efficiently track and maintain patient charts and spend more time with patients without the need to visit the Medical Records department to sign deficiencies or request historical records. Physicians will have access to a patient’s complete medical record online and can access information such as lab orders and radiology images while easily exchanging documents and demographics data.
