Marcia Matthias, RHIA, of Southern Illinois Healthcare will share lessons learned in preparation for the latest CMS audit program and will provide tips on how to organize a RAC team. You will learn about individual roles and responsibilities of RAC team members and how to effectively communicate RAC deadlines and status to the organization. Marcia will also offer insight on how to optimize the audit and reporting process, and how to evaluate software tools to effectively manage and track RAC audits. She will share a checklist of software features vital to automating and tracking every step of the RAC auditing process, and discuss her experience working with a healthcare Document Management and Imaging vendor to develop automated tools to review, fulfill and track RAC audit requests.

Marcia Matthias, RHIA, is Corporate Director of Health Information and Privacy Officer for Southern Illinois Healthcare, which is comprised of three rural hospitals and physician clinics in southern Illinois. She has 20 years of experience in health information management (HIM). Prior to her current position, Matthias served as Manager of Health Information for Herrin Hospital and St. Joseph Memorial Hospital. In addition, Matthias has served on numerous committees and as past president of Southern Illinois Health Information Management Association and has contributed articles to HCPRO’s Medical Records Briefing. She holds an Associates Degree in Health Information Technology and a BS in Speech Communication.
