HIT Incentives and Meaningful Use

Healthcare Information Technology (HIT) Stimulus

The final rules for Meaningful Use and ARRA incentives eligibility are now in place.

The final “Stage 1” rules defining Meaningful Use and provider eligibility for ARRA incentives were released by the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) on July 13, 2010. Hospitals, physicians and other health care providers now have the option of applying for federal funds to facilitate implementation of healthcare technology solutions that enable the sharing and exchange of patient data across healthcare communities.

In order to qualify for incentive funds, eligible professionals (EPs) and hospitals must implement electronic health record (EHR) technology and demonstrate to the CMS, the States, and other institutions that the EHR is not only deployed, but in use in compliance with Meaningful Use standards and rules.
